Once again, Regan Smith is driving the No. 43 in place of Aric Almirola

Regan Smith is driving Richard Petty Motorsports’ No. 43 car for the third-straight week.

The team said Wednesday that Smith will drive in Sunday’s race at Dover. He’s served as the substitute driver for Aric Almirola since Almirola fractured a vertebra in a crash at Kansas Speedway on May 13.

Smith finished 22nd in the Coca-Cola 600. He was fourth in the qualifying race for the All-Star Race, his first race driving for Almirola.

Smith has also made five starts in the Camping World Truck Series this season. His best finish in the Trucks came in the season-opening race at Daytona where he finished sixth.

While this is the third-straight race Smith has driven for the No. 43 car, no driver has been announced for the June 11 race at Pocono. If Smith is going to drive in more races for the team while Almirola recuperates, we propose that RPM make that announcement at some point in the near future instead of on a week-to-week basis.
