The Cincinnati Reds plan to call up speedy outfielder Billy Hamilton from Triple-A Louisville on Monday when major league rosters expand, the team announced Friday.
Hamilton has stolen 75 bases in 90 attempts for Triple-A Louisville this year but is hitting only .256 with a .308 on-base percentage. He has six home runs and 41 RBIs with 18 doubles, four triples and 74 runs.
The 22-year-old rose to prominence last season when he had a professional-record 155 stolen bases between high-Class A and Double-A.
Hamilton's greatest value to the Reds in a tight September pennant race could be as a pinch runner. Cincinnati entered Friday night's game against the Colorado Roclies 3 1/2 games behind National League Central-leading St. Louis.
