The Cincinnati Reds placed right-hander Johnny Cueto on the 15-day disabled list Monday with a strained lat muscle.
Cueto was injured during his start on Saturday, leaving the game against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the fifth inning with right triceps pain. The move is retroactive to Sunday.
The club promoted right-hander Justin Freeman from Triple-A Louisville to assume Cueto's roster spot. Injured left fielder Ryan Ludwick was transferred to the 60-day disabled list to make room for Freeman on the 25-man roster.
Cueto is 1-0 with a 2.60 ERA in three starts this year.
