The planning for 2013 began a lot sooner than the Cincinnati Reds would have liked. Their season ended with a 6-4 loss to the San Francisco Giants in Game 5 of the National League Division Series.
"We're going to sit down and talk about some things, kind of wrap up this year and talk about next year," Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said.
Manager Dusty Baker's contract is up.
Jocketty said he expects Baker to be back along with all of the coaches, whose contracts are up as well.
"It was a very good season," Jocketty said. "Great regular season. A good, quick start to the postseason. We just weren't able to close it out. It gives us more to build on. This team is talented enough and young enough to be in the hunt for a number years.
"We'll be back."
Baker has a decision to make himself.
"I'm not sure where my career is going here in Cincinnati," he said. "We're going to talk about that in the next couple of days. But I'm not through managing. I have more to do."
Does he expect to be back?
"I don't know, man," he said. "Right now, I'm kind of numb in this situation."
