“Lovel is a versatile player who we’re excited to add to our roster,” RSL general manager Garth Lagerwey said. “He’s a proven player on both the MLS and international levels and we believe he’ll be a good fit in our system.”
Palmer, 28, signed with the Houston Dynamo from Jamaican side Harbour View in 2010. He was traded to the Portland Timbers in 2011, where he played for a season and a half at both right back and defensive midfield. He has three goals and two assists in 79 career MLS appearances.
Internationally, Palmer has 24 caps for the Jamaican national team, and he should be a part of the squad as it heads into the CONCACAF hexagonal in 2013.
