Real Salt Lake jumped out to an early lead through two free kicks and held off the Portland Timbers as the Royals took a 2-1 win on Saturday night.
Fabian Espindola tucked home the first goal, blasting in a left-footed shot off a set play from the top of the box to give his side the lead 13 minutes in.
Javier Morales made it two in the 36th with wonderful free kick of his own, hitting the top corner of the goal from the top corner of the box.
Bright Dike gave Potland some hope just after the hour mark, heading home a Sal Zizzo cross and cutting the lead to a single goal, but the home side hung on to earn all three points.
