Rays third baseman Evan Longoria made his eighth minor league rehab start on Sunday and the team announced he'll rejoin the 25-man roster Tuesday for the start of a series with the Blue Jays.
Longoria has been out since April 30 with a partially torn left hamstring, and he has struggled in his rehab assignment with the Triple-A Durham Bulls. He is just 4-for-27 with six walks and 2 RBIs. All his appearances have been as a designated hitter, and he likely to remain a designated hitter for a while after he returns to the Rays.
Longoria missed last Tuesday's game because of soreness, but has played the past three games.
Longoria is batting .329 with four homers for the Rays this season.
To clear a roster spot, the Rays optioned infielder Will Rhymes to Durham.
