The Tampa Bay Rays announced Thursday that they signed outfielder/designated hitter Delmon Young to a minor league contract.
Young is reporting to Class AA Montgomery.
The Rays originally drafted Young with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2003 draft. He batted .293 with 16 home runs and 103 RBI over two seasons (2006-07) with Tampa Bay before being deal to the Minnesota Twins.
After leaving the Rays, Young played for the Twins (2008-11), Detroit Tigers (2011-12) and Philadelphia Phillies (2013).
Young, 27, batted .261 with a .361 on-base percentage, eight homers and 31 RBI in 80 games with the Phillies. He was designated for assignment Aug. 9 and released Aug. 14.
He is a career .283 hitter with 97 home runs.
