TORONTO -- Ryan Roberts singled in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning and left-hander David Price pitched seven innings as the Tampa Bay Rays came from behind to defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 8-5 on Friday.
Desmond Jennings followed Roberts' single with a double against right-handed reliever Steve Delabar to add an extra run in the eighth as Price (4-5) picked up his third win in four starts since returning from the disabled list.
Left-hander Brett Cecil (3-1) took the loss before a crowd of 33,266 at Rogers Centre.
Ben Zobrist, Wil Myers, Evan Longoria and Kelly Johnson hit solo home runs for the Rays who outhit the Blue Jays, 14-8.
The Rays added two insurance runs in the ninth.
Price allowed four runs and seven hits including three home runs -- solo shots by Edwin Encarnacion and J.P, Arencibia and a two-run blast by Jose Bautista.
Brett Lawrie hit his sixth homer of the season in the ninth against left-hander Jake McGee.
Blue Jays' right-hander Esmil Rogers gave up four runs, all on solo home runs, and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings and did not factor in the decision.
The Rays, who trailed 4-1 after three innings, tied the game 4-4 in the sixth on home runs by Longoria and Johnson. Longoria led off with his 19th of the season that hit the glass of the third deck in left.
Johnson tied it with his 14th of the season, a drive to center with two out.
Johnson led off the eighth with a single against Cecil. Delabar took over. Pinch-hitter Sean Rodriguez sacrificed Johnson to second. With two out, Roberts singled to left for a 5-4 Rays lead. Roberts took second on the throw home and advanced to third on a wild pitch.
Jennings doubled to increase the lead to 6-4.
The Rays added two runs (one earned) against Neil Wagner in the ninth. Luke Scott doubled. Myers hit an infield single that drew a throwing error by shortstop Jose Reyes. Scott scored and Myers took second. Rodriguez singled home Myers.
NOTES: Rays SS Yunel Escobar (right hamstring strain) was not in Friday's lineup, but the injury is not considered serious. Escobar could DH Saturday and return to the field on Sunday. Zobrist played shortstop on Friday. ...Blue Jays LF Melky Cabrera (hamstring) started in left field and batted third for Triple-A Buffalo on Friday in the next phase of his rehabilitation assignment. ...RHP Sergio Santos allowed one hit and struck out three in one inning on Thursday (triceps, elbow) at Buffalo on his rehabilitation assignment. ....Rays 1B James Loney is on the paternity list after his wife gave birth to a son. Roberts was recalled from Triple-A Durham to take his place. ....RHP Jeremy Hellickson (8-3, 4.67 earned-run average) will start for Tampa Bay against Toronto LHP Mark Buehrle (5-6, 4.89 ERA) in Saturday's game.
