Ray Lewis has some advice for Colin Kaepernick on his flag protest

Everyone has an opinion on Colin Kaepernick these days. Ready for another one?

When Ray Lewis speaks, it’s usually with passion and purpose — so we were curious to hear his take on Kaepernick’s protest of the national anthem, choosing to take a knee instead of standing for the flag.

Of course, that doesn’t always mean Lewis is right. He often takes some, um, interesting stances when asked about controversial topics.

His view here to the quarterback he defeated in the Super Bowl, which was Lewis’ final NFL game?

“My only advice to Colin Kaepernick is this: Listen, I understand what you’re trying to do. But understand, take the flag out of it,” Lewis said.

Here are Lewis’ extended comments from his appearance on “Undisputed” on FS1:

Lewis said his patriotic background helps make him feel strongly about the flag and that if Kaepernick wants to be seen as a true activist he’ll need to put in the time and effort to do so.

Kaepernick so far has pledged his own money, and the protest has sparked a national debate. But does Lewis have a point — or is he missing the big picture here? What do you say?
