The New York Rangers agreed to a six-year, $28.2 million deal with restricted free agent Ryan McDonagh on Monday, according to the New York Post.
McDonagh, a 24-year-old, up-and-coming defenseman, scored four goals and had 15 assists in 47 games for the Rangers last season.
He played all 82 games in 2011-12. He averaged more than 24 minutes per game both seasons.
The Rangers have about $6.5 million in salary cap space with which to work to try to re-sign free agents Derek Stepan and Carl Hagelin. That may not be easy as they still have to sign newly-acquired Justin Falk, who is a restricted free agent.
