The Texas Rangers activated second baseman Ian Kinsler from the disabled list Saturday and is in the starting lineup against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Kinsler, who has been on the disabled list for nearly a month with a rib muscle strain, will bat leadoff.
The Rangers optioned infielder Leury Garcia to Class AAA Round Rock. He hit .192 with Texas.
There was speculation that the Rangers might send top prospect Jurickson Profar back to the minors with Kinsler's return so he can play every day. Instead, the club decided to keep the 20-year-old infielder on the roster and will to try to find ways to mix him into the lineup. Profar is batting .278 in 21 games.
The club planned to continue Kinsler's rehab assignment at Class AA Frisco for a third straight game but decided to activate him a day early. He went 0-for-8 in the two games. He is batting .302 with seven home runs and 20 RBI in 162 at-bats this year for the Rangers.
