The Los Angeles Dodgers put out a lineup Friday afternoon without Hanley Ramirez, but before the start of Game 6 in the National League Championship Series against the St. Louis Cardinals, manager Don Mattlingly decided to play the injured shortstop after all.
Ramirez, who is trying to manage the pain of a cracked rib, was to be replaced by Nick Punto as Mattingly first shuffled the batting order and then decided against such a move about 30 minutes before the game in St. Louis. Though Ramirez did not take batting practice, Mattingly reverted to his Game 5 lineup with Ramirez in the cleanup spot.
The injury clearly has bothered Ramirez in the series, which the Cardinals led 3-2 after the Dodgers' 6-4 victory in Game 5 on Wednesday in Los Angeles. Ramirez had just two hits in 12 at-bats in the NLCS entering Game 6.
