The Oakland Raiders have been a franchise where quarterbacks' careers go to die. They often find themselves with a veteran retread to start their season, and that looked to be the case this year once they acquired Matt Schaub vs. the Houston Texas.
At his best, Schaub is a game manager, but that's an insult to game managers based on his 2013 play, as well as his play during the 2014 NFL preseason.
On the other hand, rookie QB Derek Carr has had a great showing during the preseason, and it's earned him the starting spot.
Carr's best game came in Week 4 vs. the Seattle Seahawks, where he completed 11 of his 13 passes for 143 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. In terms of fantasy football, Carr's upside is much higher than Schaub, who's nothing more than a bridge starter at this point in his NFL career.
It will be interesting to see how Carr performs vs. the New York Jets in Week 1.
