Oakland Raiders wide receiver Andre Holmes was suspended for the first four games of the regular season for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances. the league announced Saturday.
Holmes, 25, will not be eligible to return to the Raiders' active roster until Sept. 30, but the third-year player will be able to participate in preseason practices and games.
The Raiders claimed Holmes off waivers from the New England Patriots in May. He was with the Dallas Cowboys for parts of the past two seasons. Last year, he caught two passes for 11 yards in seven games.
