West Lafayette police were called to a home in the 200 block of Wiggins Street around 3 a.m. Sunday, WLFI reported. When officers arrived, they found Chelf with a gunshot wound, and he was taken to an area hospital, WLFI reported.
As of mid-day Monday, there was no update on his condition.
On Sunday afternoon, Chelf tweeted, "Blessed to see another day ... don't take things for granted."
Coach Jeff Brohm is aware there was an "incident," but is "still gathering more information before making any further comment," per Purdue sports information.
Chelf came to Purdue as a safety but was moved to linebacker this spring. He'd moved up to the second-team unit over the last week of practices and had a productive spring game Saturday with a team-high seven tackles.
Blessed to see another day... don't take things for granted.
