Priyanka Chopra Offers Some Unique Insight into Meghan Markle’s Mindset

And Chopra wants to make sure you don’t just call her “Prince Harry’s girlfriend.”

One of the reasons it is so difficult to figure out what is going on with Prince Harry and girlfriend Meghan Markle . . . is that we do not hear anything about them from either the royal or the Suits star themselves. The couple are intensely private about their relationship, which means that all we have to go on are the (very few) pictures we get of the two of them, and then reports from usually anonymous sources about their status.

So it is somewhat jarring (but kind of thrilling!) to watch this interview Wendy Williams conducted earlier this week with Quantico and Baywatch star Priyanka Chopra. Chopra and Markle are friends—Chopra says they “randomly met” at a party two years ago—and Chopra has been featured on Markle’s now-defunct website, The Tig, as well as on Markle’s (essentially defunct) Instagram account.

Williams, who never hesitates to inquire about a sensitive topic, barrels right in, asking Chopra for dirt on Harry and Markle. Chopra doesn’t give up much at first, as she says she “hopes” they get married, adding, “[Markle] seems happy. I think they look great together.” She also points out, “High-profile relationships are so stressful anyway, so as a friend I wouldn’t like to add on that at all.” (Chopra also makes a point of correcting Williams, when she introduces Markle as “Prince Harry’s girlfriend,” noting that she’s also an actress with many other achievements.)

Williams of course doesn’t back down so easily. She asks Chopra if Markle ever calls her when she’s stressed out, in her relationship or otherwise. Chopra responds, “We talk, but we talk more about my stress than hers. She doesn’t seem to have any [stress] right now.” It’s here we get perhaps the best insight into Markle’s current mindset. It seems she’s the kind of friend who will patiently listen as you detail some weird work drama or as you dissect a confusing text you got from an ex. Those kinds of friends, who are primarily interested in listening to your own stresses and dramas and offering their input, are hard to come by—and, generally, as Chopra points out, are usually pretty content and stable in their own lives. This is all to say, and we admit we are perhaps making a whole lot out of a minor clue here, it does sound like she is in a pretty good place!

Williams of course can’t help but ask Chopra if she believes she’ll be invited to the Harry-Markle wedding herself. Chopra says she’s not sure, and suggests that she doesn’t believe she’s close enough to be a bridesmaid—but Williams says, with supreme confidence, “No, you’re going to be invited.”
