Mal Moore, who stepped down as Alabama's athletic director less than two weeks ago, died Saturday, according to USA Today. He was 73. The Crimson Tide's AD was battling pulmonary difficulties.
He was hospitalized at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C., since March 13 and officially resigned on March 20. Bill Battle took over for Moore a week ago.
Moore was part of Alabama athletics for more than 50 years as a player, coach or administrator. He was part of 10 national football titles. He hired Nick Saban as football coach before the 2007 season. Saban led the Crimson Tide to three national titles in the last four years.

UCLA announced Saturday that it hired Steve Alford to run its once-legendary men's hoops program.
Alford coached at New Mexico for the past six years, compiling a 155-52 record. ESPN reported that he told his New Mexico players on Friday night that he was leaving the Lobos program.
CBS Sports reported that his contract with UCLA is for seven years at $2.6 million per year. He had agreed to a 10-year contract extension with New Mexico less than two weeks ago for about $2 million per year.
Alford replaces Ben Howland, who was fired after last week's loss in the NCAA Tournament.
Meanwhile, Yahoo Sports reported that Florida Gulf Coast coach Andy Enfield, whose team reached this year's Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament, is under consideration to become the new men's hoops coach at USC. He would replace Kevin O'Neill, who was fired during the regular season
The NHL suspended Tampa Bay Lightning forward Nate Thompson for two games without pay for delivering an illegal check to the head of New Jersey Devils forward Matt D'Agostini during their game on Friday. Thompson will forfeit nearly $10,000 in pay for the hit.
--The Chicago Blackhawks recalled forward Jeremy Morin from the AHL's Rockford IceHogs. Morin, 21, ranks third on the IceHogs with a career-high 49 points (27 goals and 22 assists) in 59 games this season. He is tied for fifth in the AHL in goals and tied for 17th in points. In 12 career NHL games with the Blackhawks, Morin has two goals and one assist since 2010. He's expected to be in uniform when the Hawks visit Detroit on Sunday.
