PRESS BOX: Florida State up to No. 2 in football polls

Florida State moved up a spot to No. 2 in both major top 25 polls, which were released Sunday.
It is the Seminoles' highest ranking since 2000.
Alabama (9-0) is still No. 1 in the Associated Press media and USA Today coaches polls. The Crimson Tide receiving 56 first-place votes in the media poll. Florida State picked up the remaining three top votes after routing unranked Wake Forest 59-3.
In the coaches poll, Alabama got 58 votes and Florida State the remaining four.
Ohio State (9-0) is No. 3 and Baylor (8-0) is No. 4 in both polls. They moved up a spot from last week. Stanford (8-1) remained at No. 5 in the AP poll and moved up from sixth to No. 5 in the coaches poll after beating Oregon (8-1). The Ducks dropped from second to No. 6 in the AP poll and to No. 7 in the coaches poll.

---Denver Nuggets center JaVale McGee is out indefinitely after X-rays revealed a stress fracture in his left shin, the team announced.
McGee is averaging 7.0 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.40 blocks in five starts this season.
Nuggets coach Brian Shaw said either J.J. Hickson or Timofey Mozgov will start in McGee's place Monday at the Utah Jazz.

----Former Major League pitcher Kip Wells has retired and is seeking a front office or scouting job, his agent, Burton Rocks, told ESPN.
Wells, 38, gave up 28 earned runs in 24 1/3 innings (10.36 ERA) this season with the Angels' Triple-A affiliate in Salt Lake, Utah.

---Veteran left-handed pitcher Ted Lilly has signed with Navegantes del Magallanes to play in the Venezuelan Winter League, ESPN Deportes reported.
Lilly, 37, had a 5.09 ERA just 23 innings for the Dodgers this past season before being released.

---The Florida Panthers sent struggling goalie Jacob Markstrom down to their AHL affiliate in San Antonio.
Markstrom was penciled in as the team's No. 1 goalie until Tim Thomas was signed shortly before the season began.
But Markstrom, 23, has not won a game since Oct. 11, and he is 1-5-3 with a 3.36 goals-against average.
