It wasn't too long ago Central Florida appeared to be in big trouble.

The Knights started the season on a good note, but against an unimpressive schedule. Then they created a plethora of doubters by finding a way to let Central Michigan sweep them at home.

Just weeks after that nightmare, the Knights finally have some reasons to be excited about the rest of their season after sweeping Southern Mississippi on the road last weekend.

They have a solid 23-12 record and an RPI that has improved from a horrendous number to an 82, which at least puts them within striking distance of NCAA postseason territory.

The Knights have outfielder Chris Duffy to thank for the impressive surge.

Duffy, of course, is one of the nation's hottest hitters this season. He's batting .447 with 13 doubles, a triple, 14 homers and 51 RBIs. He also is slugging .879 and has a .522 on-base percentage.

The senior vaulted to the top spot of the outfield category in the latest Rivals.com Power Rankings.

Duffy wasn't the only player to accomplish that goal this week.

Miami catcher Yasmani Grandal has been fantastic so far this season and vaulted to the top spot in his category. Grandal is hitting .415 with 13 doubles, a triple, seven homers and 35 RBIs. He also is slugging .707, has a .505 on-base percentage and also has been fantastic behind the plate with just two hiccups.

LSU's Micah Gibbs, Arizona's Jett Bandy and Wofford's Mac Doyle follow Grandal at the catcher position.

No additional players rose to the top spot this week, but UCLA's John Savage, who coaches the top-ranked Bruins, vaulted to the No. 1 spot in the coach category.

Arizona State's Tim Esmay, Virginia's Brian O'Connor, Texas' Augie Garrido and Arkansas' Dave Van Horn follow Savage this week.

Outside of the changes atop several categories, there also were plenty of other changes at every position.

We release our power rankings every week throughout the season.
