ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) -- Points Offthebench rallied to win the $250,000 Santa Anita Sprint Championship by a half-length Saturday to give trainer Tim Yakteen his first Grade 1 win at the track.
Ridden by Hall of Famer Mike Smith, Points Offthebench ran six furlongs in 1:08 and paid $11.20, $4.60 and $3.
''I would say, yeah, this is the biggest win of my career,'' said Yakteen, a former assistant to Bob Baffert and the late Charlie Whittingham. ''This was a tough, tough race. This is special.''
Goldencents returned $3.20 and $2.40, while Distinctive Passion was another 2 1/2 lengths back in third and paid $5.40 to show.
The victory, worth $150,000, increased Points Offthebench's career earnings to $514,940, with six wins in eight starts.
In other stakes:
-No Jet Lag won the $150,000 City of Hope Mile by a half-length under Smith. The horse ran the distance on the turf in 1:31.84 and paid $28.20 to win. Trained by Simon Callaghan, No Jet Lag improved to 2 for 2 in the U.S. while winning a graded stakes for the first time.
-Teddy's Promise won the $100,000 L.A. Woman Stakes by two lengths. She ran 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:15.28 under Victor Espinoza and paid $5.40 to win.
-Miss Pippa won the $74,000 Swingtime Stakes by a half-length under Smith. She ran a mile on the turf in 1:34.11 after rallying from last and paid $9 to win.
