The Pittsburgh Pirates placed outfielder Jose Tabata on the 15-day disabled list Monday with a left oblique strain.
In a corresponding move, Pittsburgh recalled infielder Josh Harrison from Class AAA Indianapolis.
The Pirates also purchased the contract of left-handed pitcher Mike Zagurski from Indianapolis, transferred right-hander Jeff Karstens from the 15-day DL to the 60-day DL and sent righty Bryan Morris to Class AAA.
Tabata's move to the DL was backdated to Saturday. He is batting .272 this season.
Karstens has right shoulder inflammation.
The Pirates face the Detroit Tigers on Monday. Justin Verlander was scheduled to start for the Tigers. Harrison broke up a no-hitter against Verlander in the ninth inning last year.
