Major League Baseball announced Saturday that Pittsburgh Pirates left-hander Jonathan Sanchez received a six-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for intentionally throwing at a batter.
Sanchez was disciplined for throwing at St. Louis Cardinals' Allen Craig in the bottom of the first inning of Friday night's game.
Sanchez is appealing the suspension so he will not miss any time until a decision is made on the appeal.
The Cardinals won Friday's game 9-1 and Sanchez fell to 0-3 on the season. He was ejected after throwing toward Craig's head with no outs. He had allowed three hits, including two home runs, in just 17 pitches.
