Injured Pittsburgh Pirates left-hander Wandy Rodriguez will not need surgery but has arthritis in his pitching elbow, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Monday.
Rodriguez got the diagnosis after visiting with Dr. James Andrews.
Rodriguez said the pain he has when throwing feels "like it's in the bone."
It is not clear if the 34-year-old will return this season. He has not pitched since June 5. He is 6-4 with a 3.59 ERA in 12 starts this year. He has a $13 million player option for next season.
