ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Philadelphia third baseman Reid Brignac sprained his left ankle lunging to beat a throw to first base in the fifth inning of Thursday's game against St. Louis.
Brignac extended his left foot to try and beat the tag and jammed his foot into the base. Brignac was on the ground for a few minutes before being helped off the field. He walked with a noticeable limp.
Brignac will be evaluated further Friday.
Cesar Hernandez replaced Brignac at third base next inning.
