New York Yankees veteran left-hander Andy Pettitte will miss his scheduled start Sunday because of back spasms, CBS Sports reported Saturday.
Pettitte, 40, experienced some tightness in his last start and got worse on Thursday.
It is not likely a serious injury. Pettitte could return early next week, perhaps Tuesday or Wednesday. In two starts, he has a 1.20 ERA.
Hiroki Kuroda is listed as Sunday's probable Yankees starter for Sunday night's game against the visiting Baltimore Orioles.
If Pettitte is forced to miss more than one start, David Phelps is his likely replacement in the rotation.
