New Western Kentucky coach Bobby Petrino named Jeff Brohm as his assistant head coach and offensive coordinator and Nick Holt as his defensive coordinator on Wednesday.
The coordinator hirings complete Petrino's staff. He announced his seven other assistants on Tuesday.
Brohm was the offensive coordinator at Alabama-Birmingham in 2012. Prior to that, he worked at Illinois and Louisville, his alma mater where he played quarterback from 1989 to 1993 and later coached under Petrino. Brohm also played in the NFL.
In his new role, Brohm's duties will include working with quarterbacks.
"It is great to have Jeff back," Petrino said. "He is a tremendous teacher and is a guy that played the position at the highest level. He does an excellent job in game planning and understands what a quarterback needs to do to be successful. He has a great overall knowledge of the entire offense and we won't miss a beat because we have been together before."
Holt began his coaching career at Pacific, where he played linebacker, and moved on to Idaho, Louisville, USC and Washington. Holt has 10 years of experience as a defensive coordinator, including three seasons as the defensive coordinator at USC on Pete Carroll's staff and three years as Washington's defensive coordinator. Holt worked on Arkansas's staff in an administrative role during the 2012 season.
"Nick is now another guy on our staff that has a national championship ring (from USC) on his finger and has experience at all levels of coaching," Petrino said. "He is a great motivator and is a very enthusiastic, high-energy guy that will add a lot of excitement and toughness to our defense moving forward."
