LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) -- Freshman QJ Peterson scored 38 points leading VMI over Division III foe Bridgewater 112-86 on Wednesday night.

Peterson scored 28 points in the first half for VMI (4-2), two short of the school record for points in a half. Reggie Williams has the record with 30 points in a half (2007) and 45 for a game (2006).

Peterson's last bucket was with 8:14 left and he only attempted one field goal thereafter, as VMI was comfortably ahead. He finished 15 of 23, including 5 of 11 from 3-point range.

D.J. Covington added 29 points, 10 rebounds and seven blocks, the fifth time in his career that he's had seven-plus rejections. VMI hit the century mark for the second time this season. It is 31-0 against non-Division I opponents.

It was the season opener for the Eagles. Ed Reddick had 19, and Travis Stapleton and Kenneth Waugh had 13 apiece.
