Patriots offensive tackle Matt Light will announce his retirement from the NFL after 11 seasons in the NFL, all with the franchise that drafted him in the second round of Purdue in 2001.
Light was a rookie starter on the Super Bowl team that shocked the Rams in 2001, one of five Super Bowl appearances -- including three victories -- with the Patriots.
The Patriots drafted Nate Solder in the first round of the 2011 draft and prepared him 13 starts. Solder was used mostly on the right side because of Sebastian Vollmer's injury issues, which limited him to six games.
Vollmer had 29 starts in three seasons and like Solder stands 6-8.
The Patriots other options include 2011 draft choice Marcus Cannon and free agent signee Robert Gallery, though Gallery is viewed as a better fit at guard.
