The Carolina Panthers signed free agent safety Quintin Mikell and placed safety Haruki Nakamura on injured reserve with a concussion,
the team announced Monday.
Mikell spent the previous two seasons with the St. Louis Rams. He started all 32 games he played for the Rams and had 214 tackles, four sacks, two interceptions, seven passes defensed and nine forced fumbles in that span.
Mikell was signed as an undrafted rookie free agent by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2003 out of Boise State. He was a Pro Bowl selection in 2009 and a second-team NFL All-Pro in 2008 and 2010.
For his career, Mikell has played in 155 regular season games with 91 starts and has 742 tackles, eight sacks, 12 interceptions, 52 passes defensed, 16 forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries. He has played in 12 playoff games, including five starts, and was a member of the Eagles when they reached Super Bowl XXXIX in February 2005.
