Padres Slip Past Pirates 2-1
Ian Kennedy went seven innings yielding just four hits and Logan Forsythe went 3-for-3 as San Diego outdueled Pittsburgh, 2-1. San Diego finished with a .344 batting average, which is .098 points better than their season average. Pittsburgh finished with a .138 batting average and a .191 wOBA.
Kennedy's record goes to 5-9 on the year after he surrendered no runs on four hits with eight strikeouts and three walks. Huston Street earned his 24th save after throwing one inning, striking out two and walking no one. Gerrit Cole (6-6) took the loss after pitching six innings and allowing two runs on 10 hits with five strikeouts and no walks. Forsythe was impressive at the plate for the Padres, going 3 for 3. Yonder Alonso also contributed, going 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Andrew McCutchen finished 2 for 2 with an RBI and a walk in the loss.
The Padres lost the series at home 2-1 and took over fourth place in the NL West. They will play the Cubs Friday at PetCo Park at 7:10 PM PDT.
