San Diego Padres pitcher Dustin Moseley was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Sunday because of a sore shoulder.
Moseley first noticed the problem last Wednesday during a bullpen session, but it was in Saturday's game that he knew something was wrong with his shoulder.
"I felt something [in the shoulder area] and turned around and looked up at the [scoreboard]. It said 84 mph changeup," Moseley told MLB,com. "That's when I said something is going on."
He knew it was a problem because he had thrown a fastball, not a changeup. The loss of velocity convinced Moseley that his shoulder had become a significant problem. He ended up allowing five runs on five hits in five innings.
To replace Moseley on the roster, the Padres called up Josh Spence from Triple-A Tucson. Spence had pitched one scoreless inning in relief on Friday for Tucson, allowing two hits.
