Ouch! Unsuspecting Oakland A's vendor hit with fly ball

When Houston’s Marwin Gonzalez was at the plate with two strikes on him in the third inning Tuesday night in Oakland, an ice cream vendor way out in the seats down the third-base line in left field decided it was a good time to turn his back on the game.

Oops.

Gonzalez sent a foul ball in the vendor’s direction and it tagged the man right in the backside. He winced in pain and turned back to see several fans scurrying around him for the foul ball. The vendor actually handled the whole thing quite well considering how badly it probably hurt. He was able to smile about only seconds after the ball struck him.

It’s a wonder this kind of thing doesn’t happen more often with hundreds of vendors working the aisles at major league parks each day. This particular vendor was very fortunate the ball wasn’t hit just a bit harder. He could have been badly injured if the ball would have hit him in the neck or back of the head.

Here is hoping the A’s found a way to reward him with a baseball or maybe 30-minute massage.
