Oregon and Clemson made gains in the latest AP Top 25 poll, but No. 1 Alabama remains atop the college football heap by a wide margin.
The Crimson Tide (1-0) dominated Virginia Tech on Saturday in Atlanta and earned 58 first-place votes.
Oregon (1-0) mopped up Nicholls State and leapfrogged Ohio State to go from third to No. 2 in this week's poll. The Buckeyes, down one spot to No. 3, received one first-place vote as did Clemson.
The Tigers, fresh off their victory over fifth-ranked Georgia, went from eighth to No. 4, ahead of Stanford and South Carolina. Georgia dropped to No 11.
Clemson's ranking is its highest in 25 years.
Washington is in the Top 25, propelled by their 38-6 win over Boise State. The Broncos, ranked 19th last week, dropped out o the poll.
Baylor, No. 23, is the only other team to go from unranked in the preseason poll to a spot in this week's rankings.
