Opportunity Lost as Rams cough one up to Giants 17-10

Case Keenum, Los Angeles Rams
Case Keenum, Los Angeles Rams

It started good, like 10-0 Rams good. Then, as has been the norm, the Los Angeles Rams led by Case Keenum worked hard to snatch defeat from the jaws of possible victory. 17-10 was the final, but it seemed much worse than that.

Rams fans have been here before, especially the last three weeks. With so much promise after a 3-1 start, Los Angeles has lost three straight games, and what seemed possible now seems impossible.

At 3-4 and with a quarterback who keeps throwing completions to the wrong team, the Rams are suddenly back at the drawing board. The list of questions seems long and predictable; bad quarterback play, ZERO running game, a porous offensive line. And perhaps the biggest question of all: why not just start Jared Goff?

Well, why not?

The answer isn’t a popular one, but it makes sense why Fisher will, and has said he will stick with Keenum. At 3-4, the Rams are also 2-1 in the division. He also looks at two home games still to be played against Arizona, who they beat, and a bad 49ers team who they lost to on opening night. A road game at Seattle is all the less daunting in that they have beaten the Seahawks at home and on the road.

Bottom line, Jeff Fisher believes the Rams are still in it.

Whether you believe it or not is of little interest to him. It may also say where Jared Goff is in his quest to be only slightly better than or equal to Case Keenum. Fisher is fine living with the consequences of keeping him on the bench despite public opinion. AND MAYBE, Goff just isn’t there yet.

Also worth considering, is why risk your top pick and franchise future behind an awful O-Line.

That’s a worthy consideration.

As for Case Keenum, he WAS awful week 1, and EQUALLY awful today. In between, he frankly hasn’t been. Last week at Detroit he played his best game in a long time. Unfortunately, he had a costly pick. Today, it was more of that times 4.

Today he cost his team. IF he does get the start against Carolina, it must be under the condition that he is now on a short leash. Today erased most of the “good will” he has had, and fans aren’t long for Keenum with Goff sitting on the bench. Suffice it to say, the clock is ticking on Case and the Rams in 2016.

Today that clock sped up a lot.
