Senior guard Nick Kellogg sank the winning 3-pointer with 7.8 seconds remaining, and Ohio snatched a 70-69 overtime victory from Richmond on Saturday on the Spiders' home court.
Kellogg had a hand in his face when he hit the decisive shot, and finished with 14 points as the Bobcats (9-3) rebounded from last Wednesday's loss to Massachusetts in which Ohio allowed a season-high 83 points.
Point guard Cedrick Lindsay led all scorers with 23 points for Richmond (8-4) and had six of his team's eight points in overtime, including a jumper with 32 seconds remaining to put the Spiders ahead by a 69-67 margin. Richmond's senior leader missed the Spiders' prior game on Dec. 14 against Coppin State due to a sprained knee.
Forward Maurice Ndour set the scoring pace for Ohio with 19 points and made eight of his 10 shots from the field. Swingman Ricardo Johnson added 14 points.
Kendall Anthony hit a 3-pointer with 23 seconds remaining in regulation that helped force overtime. He finished with 17 points for the Spiders.
Ohio trailed by 10 points on multiple occasions in the first half but battled its way back to claim a 50-48 lead with 9:02 remaining in the second half. The lead changed hands four times down the stretch before Anthony's 3-pointer prolonged the game.
Richmond led 42-38 at the break but was held to 19 points on 8-of-22 shooting in the second half.
Ohio won the rebounding battle 33-31 and prevailed despite committing 17 turnovers to Richmond's 15 miscues.
