BERLIN (AP) -- U.S. defender Timmy Chandler set up Josip Drmic for the tying goal to give Nuremberg a 1-1 draw at Stuttgart on Friday night in Gertjan Verbeek's first game in charge of the relegation-threatened Bundesliga team.

Verbeek's tenure got off to a poor start when referee Guido Winkmann awarded a penalty for Stuttgart within 2minutes for Niklas Stark's clumsy challenge on Alexandru Maxim.

Stuttgart's Vedad Ibisevic rifled the spot kick into the top left corner for the Bosnian's league-leading seventh goal of the season.

But Chandler then set up Drmic, who calmly slotted the ball beyond goalkeeper Sven Ulreich and in off the far post just 3 minutes later.

''It was a bad start but then we scored a nice goal and we had our chances. I'm satisfied with the 1-1,'' said Verbeek, who was appointed Tuesday in place of the sacked Michael Wiesinger.

MADRID (AP) - Valladolid cruised to a 3-0 victory at Rayo Vallecano on Friday for its second win of the season through 10 rounds of the Spanish league.

Patrick Ebert opened the scoring in the 31st minute after he controlled a lobbed pass, cut back to shed two defenders and unleashed a long left-foot strike into the far corner of the net.

Striker Javi Guerra added a second goal in the 39th, and substitute Daniel Larsson sealed the win three minutes later when he snatched a poor pass by Rayo's Johan Mojica and scored.

The win lifted Valladolid from the brink of the relegation zone past Rayo to the middle of the table before the rest of the first division plays over the weekend.

Leader Barcelona hosts Real Madrid in the first ''clasico'' match of the season on Saturday, while second-place Atletico Madrid welcomes Real Betis on Sunday.

NANTES, France (AP) - Nolan Roux scored as Lille beat Nantes 1-0 Friday to pull within a point of leader Paris Saint-Germain in the French league.

Roux slid home a low cross from Ronny Rodelin in the 41st minute, although replays showed the Lille striker was just offside.

Lille kept a sixth straight clean sheet to provisionally climb to second place, one point clear of Monaco.

''We're very rigorous. We don't concede goals because everybody contributes,'' Lille fullback Franck Beria said.

The result ended Nantes' four-match winning streak. The promoted side provisionally remained in fourth place, five points behind PSG.
