NORFOLK, Va. (AP) -- Joel Smith scored 27 points and teamed with Jonathan Lee to hit late foul shots to give Northeastern a 79-74 overtime victory against Old Dominion Saturday in Colonial Athletic Association action.

The Huskies (16-8, 11-1) got their 11th win in the last 12 games. But ODU (3-21, 1-11), which got a career-high 25 points from Dimitri Batten off the bench, nearly pulled the upset.

The Huskies led 28-25 at halftime. Smith made one of two free throws with 6 seconds left in regulation for a 66-64 lead. But DeShawn Painter's layup at 0:02 tied it, forcing overtime. Painter had a 15-point, 16-rebound double-double.

The Monarchs scored the first basket in overtime before Lee's trey put Northeastern up for good.

The Huskies were 10 for 10 at the foul line down the stretch, Smith and Lee (19 points) each 4 for 4. Northeastern won despite being outscored 52-22 in the paint.
