North Texas outscored Florida Atlantic 9-0 in overtime to record a 66-57 victory over the Owls in a Sun Belt Conference basketball game Thursday night.
The Mean Green (11-18, 6-12) tied the game on Jordan Williams' free throws with 37 seconds left in the second half and had a chance to win in regulation after Greg Gantt missed a runner for FAU with 24 seconds remaining.
But the Owls' Richard Morrow blocked P.J. Hardwick's jumper at the buzzer and the game went to the extra five-minute period.
Neither team scored in overtime until Roger Franklin finally broke the ice with a 3-pointer with 2:23 remaining.
The Owls (12-17, 7-11) missed eight field goal attempts and two free throws and threw in a turnover as well in overtime.
The Mean Green was 22 of 25 from the free throw line to FAU's 5 of 9 and had four players score in double figures. Franklin led all scorers with 20 points, Jordan Williams scored 14, Tony Mitchell 12 and Alzee Williams 10.
Gantt had 18 and Stefan Moody 13 for the Owls.
North Texas got a sweep of the season series while winning for the third time in its last four games.
The Owls dropped their fifth in a row on the road.
