Norfolk State 85, Maryland-Eastern Shore 63

Junior guard Pendarvis Williams scored 17 points and surpassed the 1,000-point milestone for his career as Norfolk State concluded a brief two-game homestand with an 85-63 win over Maryland-Eastern Shore on Monday night in Norfolk, Va.

Malcolm Hawkins added 16 points and Brandon Goode had 12 points and 11 rebounds for Norfolk State (16-10, 11-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference).

The Spartans have won 10 straight, and they entered Monday as one of only eight Division I teams undefeated in conference play. That group includes North Carolina Central, which is 10-0, a half-game behind Norfolk State in the MEAC standings.

Curiously, Central and Norfolk State won't play during the regular season as a result of the unbalanced schedule from having 13 league members.

Williams joined the 1,000-point club on a 3-pointer with 1:22 remaining in the first half. He hit three 3-pointers on the night, headlining a 9-for-20 collective performance by the Spartans from long range.

Norfolk State won with relative ease, shooting 50 percent both from the field and 3-point range in the first half en route to a 46-35 lead. The Spartans held UMES to nine points in the first 10 minutes of the second period, widening their lead to 64-44.

Kevin Mays scored 20 points and Dominique Cowell added 10 for UMES (1-19, 1-8), which hasn't posted a winning overall record since 1994.
