Norfolk State 64, Morgan State 59

Pendarvis Williams poured in 22 points, and Norfolk State held off Morgan State to earn a hard-fought, 64-59 win Monday in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game at Baltimore.

Norfolk State (14-10, 9-0) recorded its eighth consecutive victory.

Williams scored in double figures for the 11th consecutive game and drew closer to the 1,000-point milestone. He needs 17 more points to reach quadruple digits, which would make him the 30th Norfolk State player to accomplish the statistical feat.

Rashid Gaston added 13 points and four blocks for Norfolk State, which got 12 points in 19 minutes from Brandon Goode and nine points and seven rebounds from Malcolm Hawkins.

DeWayne Jackson scored 18 points for Morgan State (6-13, 3-5). Anthony Hubbard added 12 points and 13 rebounds, and Justin Black had 12 points.

Tough defense propelled Norfolk State. The Spartans led 31-26 at halftime, then saw Morgan State rally to tie the game at 41 with 11:14 to go. The Spartans held Morgan State scoreless until the 7:51 mark, part of a Bears drought of more than six minutes without a field goal made. The result was a 57-52 lead for Norfolk State.

Morgan State narrowed the gap to 59-57, but Williams hit a layup with four seconds left that pushed Norfolk State back ahead by two possessions.
