Lawrence Keys, three-star wide receiver from McDonough 35 High School in New Orleans, Louisiana, was in Tuscaloosa last week for an unofficial visit with the University of Alabama.
"The visit was very good," Keys said. "I enjoyed it. "I talked to Coach Saban. He gave me all the basics of Alabama. He didn't just talk about football. He also talked about academics and their graduation rate.
"It was really good to go in the meeting rooms with the players and coaches. It was cool to see what that's like. We got to watch practice and see how they rotate, and see how their system works. I talked to the new receivers coach (Mike Locklsey) for a little bit."
Keys watched a pair of former Rivals.com five-star receivers at practice last Thursday.
"Some of the things that stood out to me were how the practice was run and how up-tempo everything was," he said. "Everything was fast and quick. I really liked it.
"I watched Calvin Ridley and Jerry Jeudy. I watched them the whole day. They looked great. I watched them, but also learned some fundamentals so I can put that in my game."
The 5-foot-11, 160-pound athlete has more than 40 scholarship offers including one from Alabama. He expects to trim his favorites to a 10-15 on May 17. He said Alabama will make the cut, and hopes to return to Tuscaloosa this summer.
"I have been watching them on TV a lot," Keys said. "I always like their receivers. I like the way the offense is set up. I like the deep routes they run. I like the pace and tempo of the offense."
