Noah Syndergaard wears 'RIP Harambe' shirt to Cincinnati Zoo

New York Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard has achieved peak Internet. During a recent visit to the Cincinnati Zoo, Syndergaard wore a t-shirt featuring the phrase “RIP Harambe.” Above those words was a picture of the gorilla with a halo over his head.

Sound ridiculous? Well, it actually happened. The Mets are currently in Cincinnati playing the Reds, so the timing makes sense. On top of that, we know it happened because Syndergaard documented the event on his Instagram page.

What a day at the Cincinnati zoo with @dberni33 shoutout to @barstoolsports and @kfcbarstool for the shirts. #ripharambe

You’ll notice there’s a rather large portion of Syndergaard’s photo is blurred out. That’s a reference to a popular Internet slogan about Harambe. It is NSFW, so we won’t repeat it here, but if you’ve watched the Yasiel Puig Triple-A party video, you’ll understand the reference.

If you aren’t aware, Harambe was the great ape who was killed by zookeepers after a small child made its way into his enclosure. The gorilla has since become a popular Internet meme, much to the frustration of the Cincinnati Zoo.

Given the zoo’s stance on the issue, it took some guts for Syndergaard to show up there wearing an “RIP Harambe” shirt. That said, sometimes you have to take risks if you want to reach Internet nirvana.
