NJ Teams at Spring Fling

The Spring Fling which is usually run final four weekend has become the unofficial start of the AAU season.

Once again this year a very strong field was on hand for the event held April 1-2 at Hoop Group Headquarters in Neptune.

NJ Hoops

17 & UNDER

There were 24 teams competing in the oldest Division.

The NJ teams were: Playaz Gold, Team Rio, Hoop Heaven, Playaz Red, Game 7 Sharks and South Jersey Select.

In a quarterfinal: Team Rio ousted Wiz 71-50. 6-foot-2 Lawrenceville So. Jalen Gaffney scored 18 with 4 3's.

In a semi: The Playaz trimmed Team Rio 66-62 in overtime. 6-foot-3 Immaculate Conception Sr. Jalen Carey exploded for 36 and 6 treys. 6-foot-5 Ranney So. Bryan Antoine and Gaffney both had 18 for Rio.

In the championship: The Playaz edged New Heights NY 60-57. Carey had 12 to lead the balanced Playaz attack.

16 & UNDER  

There were 12 teams competing in the oldest Division.

The NJ programs were: Playaz Red, Team Rio, Playaz Grey and Playaz Black.

In a semi: The Playaz beat Team Rio 57-42. 6-foot-7 Immaculate Conception Jr. Justin Winston went for 27.

In the championship: The Playaz lost to Team Takeover 58-29.

15 & UNDER  

There were 12 teams competing in the oldest Division.

The NJ teams were: MSU Skyliners, Rens, Playaz

In a quarterfinal: The Playaz lost to the Rens 66-36. 6-foot-8 Life Center Fr. Lance Ware had 18 for the Rens. 5-foot-11 8th grader Amari Marshall scored 10 for the Playaz.

In the championship: The Rens topped Team Takeover 44-40.
