The San Francisco 49ers confirmed that linebacker Aldon Smith sustained minor injuries at a house party in Santa Clara County early Saturday morning.
Bay City News reported that two people were shot and another stabbed at the party in a rural area of the county east of San Jose, according to Santa Clara County sheriff's spokesman.
Authorities arrived at the scene shortly after receiving a 911 call at 2:14 a.m. from someone who heard gunshots coming from a home in the 4000 block of Higuera Highland Lane where a large party was being held, sheriff's spokesman Jose Cardoza said.
All three were taken to hospitals and are expected to survive, Cardoza said. Authorities would not comment on the identity of the victims. No arrests have been made and there are no suspects.
General manager Trent Baalke release a statement confirming that Smith was injured but did not provide further details.
"The San Francisco 49ers are aware that Aldon Smith incurred minor injuries during an incident last night," Baalke said. "We are in contact with Aldon, and thankful that his injuries were not more serious and that he is recovering comfortably. The 49ers are also in communication with local authorities as they gather information regarding the incident, and will reserve further comment at this time."
Cardoza said the party was so large that San Jose police and the California Highway Patrol were called in for assistance.
"It was a chaotic scene," Cardoza said, according to the Sacramento Bee. "There was a lot of commotion, and no one knows where the gunshots came from."
Smith was arrested for driving under the influence in Miami Beach in January with a blood-alcohol level of .194.
Smith set a rookie team record with 14 sacks, despite playing less than half the defensive snaps. The third-down specialist is expected to start at right outside linebacker this year.
