No. 1 Star: Connor McDavid, Edmonton Oilers.

As required by Canadian law, McDavid is first star by virtue of scoring the first hat trick of his NHL career. The Oilers went on to beat the Dallas Stars, 5-2.

No. 2 Star: Anders Nilsson, Buffalo Sabres

Through regulation and overtime, Nilsson made 46 of 47 saves. In the shootout he stopped Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang to give the Sabres the win.

No. 3 Star: Vinnie Hinostroza, Chicago Blackhawks

After two periods, the Vancouver Canucks were up 3-0 on the Blackhawks. Chicago made the three goal comeback in the third. In a wild overtime, Hinostroza assisted on Marian Hossa’s game winner after Toews’s OT goal was called offsides. Hinostroza scored his first NHL goal and his first multi-point night.

Honorable Mention: Anton Slepyshev and Jesse Puljujarvi had two assists each for the Oilers. Drake Caggiula made his NHL debut for Edmonton and picked up a point. Both Stars goal came on the power play … Sidney Crosby tied the game at 1-1 with his 350th power play goal. Buffalo’s Cal O’Reilly scored the only goal in the shootout against Marc-Andre Fleury … Scott Darling made 24 of 27 saves through regulation and OT for the comeback win … Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped all 32 shots from the Philadelphia Flyers in the 3-0 win … Peter Budaj improved to 9-6-1 in the Los Angeles Kings 4-2 win over the New Jersey Devils. The two teams combined for 74 hits in the game … Alexander Radulov returned to the Canadiens lineup after missing two games with an illness. He and Shea Weber assisted in both Habs goals in the 2-1 victory against the Maple Leafs … Jaromir Jagr scored 25 seconds into the first period as the Florida Panthers ran over the Ottawa Senators, 4-1:

Roberto Luongo made 39 saves for his seventh win of the season … The San Jose Sharks came back from an 0-2 deficit to take the Arizona Coyotes into overtime. Martin Hanzal – he’s so hot right now – scored the game winner … In the St. Louis Blues 3-1 win against division rival Nashville Predators, Jake Allen’s 30 save performance improved his record to 8-3-3 … The Colorado Avalanche scored three goals in the third period to overcome the 2-0 lead by Minnesota and win the game. Calvin Pickard stopped 41 of 43 for Colorado. Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen scored a goal and an assist in the comeback.

Dishonorable Mention: Kari Lehtonen allowed four goals on 13 shots in 22:16 TOI before being pulled for Antti Niemi. Patrick Sharp returned for Dallas and that’s about it … Chris VandeVelde played all of 1:21 TOI before he was knocked out of the game on a hit by Braydon Coburn:

… The Devils out-shot the Kings 14-6 in the third period and only managed one goal … The Toronto Maple Leafs were not happy with Alexei Emelin’s actions against James van Riemsdyk at the end of the game. The Montreal Canadiens were equally unhappy with Matt Martin’s hit on Nathan Beaulieu earlier in the game.

… The Senators were without Bobby Ryan who broke a finger in the last game … For what it’s worth, Mattias Ekholm and P.K. Subban were both minus-3 against the Blues. Nail Yakupov was a healthy scratch – again … Minnesota was without Zach Parise due to an illness. Colorado played another game without Gabriel Landeskog and Matt Duchene … The Russian judge gives this dive by Alex Burrows a 6:
