The New York Rangers agreed to a contract extension with goaltender Henrik Lundqvist on Wednesday.
Terms of the deal were not released by the team but TSN reported that it is worth $59.5 million over seven years.
Lundqvist was in the final year of his contract and due to become an unrestricted free agent after the season, but his new deal will keep him with the Rangers until 2021.
The deal comes after coach Alain Vigneault started backup Cam Talbot two straight games.
Lundqvist is 8-11 with a 2.51 goals-against average and .917 save percentage in 20 games this season.
---The Chicago Blackhawks recalled forwards Jeremy Morin and Joakim Nordstrom from Rockford of the AHL and reassigned forward Brandon Pirri to Rockford.
Also, defenseman Michael Kostka will report to Rockford on a conditioning assignment.
Morin has three assists in nine games this season with the Blackhawks and has 12 points (six goals and six assists) in 13 games with Rockford.
Nordstrom scored one goal in eight games for the Blackhawks earlier in the season. He has six points (five goals and one assist) in 15 games with Rockford.
Pirri has 11 points (six goals and five assists) in 24 games with the Blackhawks this season. He also has three assists in three games with Rockford.
Kostka has one goal in two games with Chicago this season. He was placed on injured reserve Oct. 25 and is eligible to stay in Rockford for up to six days or three games under the terms of his conditioning assignment.
---The Columbus Blue Jackets promoted goaltender Mike McKenna from Springfield of the AHL and assigned forward Michael Chaput to Springfield.
Columbus recalled McKenna following the injury to starter Sergei Bobrovsky. McKenna will back up Curtis McElhinney. Bobrovsky sustained a lower-body injury during the third period of Tuesday night's 1-0 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning.
McKenna is 4-9-1 with a 3.49 goals against average and .887 save percentage in 17 career NHL games with Tampa Bay and the New Jersey Devils.
Chaput had an assist and two penalty minutes in 17 games with Columbus.
