The NHL released its preseason schedule Thursday, which opens Sept. 14 and includes games in 13 non-league venues.
The Washington Capitals and Winnipeg Jets open the exhibition season at Yardmen Arena in Belleville, Ont. The nearby town of Stirling-Rawdon won the Canada-wide Kraft Hockeyville competition to host the game.
Other non-NHL venues hosting preseason games include: Baltimore, Md. (Boston Bruins vs. Capitals, Sept. 17); Barrie, Ont. (New York Islanders vs. Ottawa Senators, Sept. 29); Brooklyn, N.Y. (New Jersey Devils vs. Islanders, Sept. 21); Estero, Fla. (Florida Panthers vs. Tampa Bay Lightning, Sept. 26); Las Vegas, Nev. (Los Angeles Kings vs. New York Rangers, Sept. 27 and Kings vs. Colorado Avalanche, Sept. 28); London, Ont. (Philadelphia Flyers vs. Toronto Maple Leafs, Sept. 15); Oklahoma City, Okla. (Dallas Stars vs. Edmonton Oilers, Sept. 27); Orlando, Fla. (St. Louis Blues vs. Lightning, Sept. 18); Quebec City, Que. (Carolina Hurricanes vs. Montreal Canadiens, Sept. 20); Regina, Sask. (Calgary Flames vs. Islanders, Sept. 17); San Antonio, Texas (Stars vs. Panthers, Sept. 20); and Saskatoon, Sask. (Flames vs. Senators, Sept. 16 and Bruins vs. Jets, Sept. 27).
Also on Sept. 14, the Oilers and Flames play each other in two split-squad games with one in Edmonton and the other in Calgary.
The Stanley Cup-champion Chicago Blackhawks open the preseason Sept. 17 at home against the Detroit Red Wings.
The exhibition schedule concludes Sept. 29. The regular season opens Oct. 1.
