Dec 28 (The Sports Xchange) - The Boston Bruins announced Saturday that defenseman Dennis Seidenberg is out for the rest of the season with a torn ACL/MCL in his right knee.
Seidenberg's expected recovery time is six to eight months. The injury occurred during the third period of Friday night's game against the Ottawa Senators.
Boston recalled defenseman Zach Trotman from Providence of the AHL on an emergency basis and assigned goaltender Niklas Svedberg to Providence.
Seidenberg has one goal and nine assists in 34 games this season. He has played 615 NHL games with the Philadelphia Flyers, Phoenix Coyotes, Carolina Hurricanes, Florida Panthers and Bruins.

The St. Louis Blues placed forward Alex Steen on injured reserve with a concussion.
Steen has not played since he left a game against the Edmonton Oilers a week ago with an upper body injury. Steen is out indefinitely, general manager Doug Armstrong said in a statement.
Steen leads the team with 38 points and is second in the NHL with 24 goals in 35 games.

New York Islanders center John Tavares did not play in Saturday night's game against the New Jersey Devils because of a lower body injury.
Tavares did not practice Friday. Coach Jack Capuano would not specify the nature of the injury, what caused it or when it occurred, according to Newsday.
Tavares, 23, has 13 goals and 26 assists in 38 games this season. (Editing by Gene Cherry)
