Smith, 27, had two goals and three assists in 33 games with Detroit this season while battling a knee injury. He is in the final season of a two-year, $5.5 million contract and will become an unrestricted free agent this summer. - - Viktor Stalberg is headed to the Ottawa Senators after the Carolina Hurricanes traded the veteran right wing for a third-round pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. Stalberg, 31, totaled nine goals and three assists in 57 games with the Hurricanes this season. He scored a team-high two shorthanded goals for Carolina (25-25-8), which is tied with the Detroit Red Wings for last place in the Eastern Conference. - - Michal Rozsival and Jordin Tootoo agreed to one-year contract extensions with the Chicago Blackhawks, the team announced.
